If you are concerned about your child's mental health, please consult with our licensed professional therapist. Describe the behaviors that concern you. Talk to your child's teacher, close friends, relatives or other caregivers to see if they've noticed changes in your child's behavior. Share this information with your therapist as you will play an important role in understanding, helping and supporting your child's treatment

Behavioral Therapy

Counselors in primary and secondary schools have a difficult job because they primarily see the students in the school environment, but usually, problems with behavior at school are due to issues in the home. Adequately treating children’s behavioral and emotional difficulties requires the cooperation and involvement of the parents.

We want to make sure that your child's treatment is specific to their needs and the evaluation will include several steps. Evaluations will typically consist of a parent, caregiver or teacher questionnaire and  interview questions. During your child's mental health assessment, your therapist may ask you to talk about observed symptoms, how they affect your child's life and the family unit as a whole. You might discuss your family’s mental health history and your family life and family relationships, what your child's  was like and if you’ve had any major traumas or losses in your past. As an Education Specialist and Licensed Mental Health Counselor, MR LMHC® can provide valuable insight and assistance to parents and educators on proven strategies and behavioral interventions to increase their ability to function well at home, school or in other social settings.

Child & Adolescent Therapy

Children can develop the same mental health conditions as adults, but their symptoms may be different. Mental illness in children can be hard for parents to identify. As a result, many children who could benefit from treatment don't get the help they need.

Mental health disorders in children are generally defined as delays or disruptions in developing age-appropriate thinking, behaviors, social skills or regulation of emotions. These problems are distressing to children and disrupt their ability to function well at home, in school or in other social situations. It can be difficult to understand mental health disorders in children because normal childhood development is a process that involves change. Additionally, the symptoms of a disorder may differ depending on a child's age, and children may not be able to explain how they feel or why they are behaving a certain way. Concerns about the stigma associated with mental illness, the use of medications, and the cost or logistical challenges of treatment might also prevent parents from seeking care for a child who has a suspected mental illness. Understand how to recognize warning signs of mental illness in children and how you can help your child.

Families & Couples Therapy

Family counseling aims to assist any and all family members by facilitating formal communication and discussion of issues to help resolve problems. Family communication patterns are unique, and can lead to hostile disagreements and conflicts. We will work through life transitions, improve your quality of life and your relationships, and reach your personal goals.

Trauma & Grief Therapy

Traumatic life events include childhood abuse or neglect, a family member’s death and serious illnesses. The timing and extent to which these affect an individual vary significantly depending on the person. These events can have profound effects on relationships and behavior. Trauma therapy is just that, a form of talk therapy aimed at treating the emotional and mental health consequences of trauma. In clinical terms, a traumatic event is one in which a person's life was threatened, or they witnessed another person's life being threatened. It is unclear how and why people react to trauma differently. A combination of genetics, temperament, and repeated exposure to traumatic events can all play a role. We help clients process trauma while teaching families to recognize and emphasize an understanding of how the traumatic experience impacts clients.

Collegiate Mental Health Therapy

The mental health challenges confronting some college students are important. How to deal with them is another matter. Without question, an unprecedented number of collegians are reporting anxiety, stress, depression and ideations of suicide and self-harm. College students seeking treatment -- and the professionals who treat them -- continue to identify anxiety and depression as the most common concerns for seeking treatment and the need for support amid academic and personal pressures. Whatever students’ reasons for seeking help, their willingness to do so is a positive sign. The goal is to provide an accurate diagnosis of your condition and to determine the best treatment plan that is most appropriate for you and your life situation with proven behavioral interventions and strategies. It is important to act when someone appears to be struggling. Let MR LMHC® help your college student and family.

Sports Related Mental Health Therapy

Sports psychology can cover sports participation in a wide range of settings, from amateur athletes participating in recreational sports all the way up to Olympians and professional athletes. Being involved in sports is often an asset in one’s life, offering unique opportunities to work toward goals, bond with peers, and find supportive social communities. Because sports psychology is a relatively young field, it’s hard to know precisely how common sports-related mental health issues are. However, the available research indicates that mental health challenges are relatively common amongst student-athletes attending college in the US and elite athletes. Sports can be stressful or, in some cases, psychologically harmful. If challenges around sports become particularly intense or frequent, they can lead to mental health symptoms and interfere with the activities of daily life. Take a stand, step in and be the difference in an athlete's life.
